Aartis: Jai Lakshmi Mata  – 02/240

🪔 Om Jai Lakshmi Mata Aarti

The Universal Aarti of the Goddess of Wealth, Wisdom, and Well-being
Celebrated across homes and temples during Diwali, Fridays, and Varalakshmi Vratam

🌸 1. Introduction: The Resplendent Mother Lakshmi

Among all the deities of the Sanatana tradition, Mahalakshmi holds a universally adored position as the embodiment of abundance, dharma, and divine order. She is not merely the giver of wealth but the upholder of harmony in all aspects of life — mental, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual.

The Aarti “Om Jai Lakshmi Mata” is sung with reverence and love across India and the world. It expresses:

  • Gratitude for her divine presence,
  • A plea for protection from scarcity and fear,
  • A declaration that true prosperity lies in virtue, devotion, and surrender.

📖 2. Scriptural & Symbolic Background

Lakshmi appears in several scriptures:

  • In the Rigveda’s Śrī Sūkta, she is hailed as: “Padmānane padmau ruhe padmākṣi padma sambhave”
“O lotus-faced, lotus-eyed one, who was born from the lotus…”
  • During the Samudra Manthana (Churning of the Ocean), Mahalakshmi emerged from the cosmic ocean of milk (Kṣīrasāgara) and chose to be the eternal consort of Lord Vishnu, symbolizing that sustenance (Vishnu) and abundance (Lakshmi) must walk together.
  • She is associated with 14 divine treasures (ratnas), sacred order (ṛta), and spiritual light (tej).

Singing this Aarti aligns one’s inner world with the Vedic ideal of prosperity rooted in dharma.
