The Divya Desams (Sanskrit: दिव्यदेशम्) are the 108 most sacred temples of Lord Vishnu, praised in the Divya Prabandham — a collection of 4,000 Tamil devotional verses composed by the 12 Alwars, saint-poets of the Bhakti movement from South India.
These temples are not only sacred but considered divinely revealed (divya) by the Alwars themselves. Each Desam is infused with rasa (devotional flavor), poetry, mysticism, and darshanam (divine vision).
🙏 Who are the Alwars?
The 12 Alwars were Vishnu devotees between 5th and 9th century CE.
Their verses were compiled by Nathamuni, giving birth to the Divya Prabandham.
They saw Vishnu not as distant but approachable, loving, and responsive.
Through the Divya Desams, they channeled the Lord’s divine presence into the physical world.
